Residents urged to be vigilant for Borer

Town of East Fremantle residents are reminded to be on the lookout for signs of Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer (PSHB) in residential trees and report suspected infestations to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

PSHB has been an ongoing issue for trees in the Perth area since it was first detected in the Town in 2021. It is considered an agricultural and environmental pest, with more than 400 host species including ornamental, fruit, nut, native and amenity trees.

Because the beetle is so small, the symptoms of PSHB damage are usually noticed before the beetle.

Symptoms can include shot holes, staining, gumming, sugar volcanoes, frass and dieback.

Residents can report any suspected infestations to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development on (08) 9368 3080 or download the MyPestGuide Reporter app and report any suspected infestations.
