Town of East Fremantle’s Mayor Jim O’Neill and Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Throssell will join their counterparts from the Perth South West Metropolitan Alliance (PSWMA) in meetings in the United States during September 2024.

A wide range of meetings are scheduled, including with local and other government agencies, travel and tourism professionals, and those working in housing/urban development and social support.

The meetings will also allow the local governments within the Alliance to understand how the PSWMA can play a role in supporting the AUKUS deal, and investigating what the deal means for their local communities, economies and natural environments.

Participants will seek insights into how to support incoming personnel and their families, and a better understanding of emergency management procedures related to the presence of nuclear-powered submarines.

Comprising local governments in the South West Metropolitan Region of WA, (City of Cockburn, City of Fremantle, City of Kwinana, City of Melville, City of Rockingham and Town of East Fremantle), the PSWMA exists to provide a forum and a structure for member councils to unite and collaborate for the benefit of the broader region.

This includes delivering better funding, policy, sustainability and collaborative outcomes for the region via advocacy positions, research projects, investment and trade efforts.
