The Town of East Fremantle has long been committed to a shared vision for the East Fremantle Community Park: creating a central community hub focusing on connecting the community to physical and social activities, in support of healthy lifestyles.
The Town has secured agreements with two of the three clubs set to use the East Fremantle Community Park and looks forward to securing the third and final agreement with East Fremantle Football Club.
The Town recognises the East Fremantle Football Club’s contributions to the culture of East Fremantle and is determined to continue working together to finalise the agreement.
The East Fremantle Football Club has already provided in principle agreement to the sublease earlier this month. We are now waiting for formal confirmation of their agreement to the sublease, and claims suggesting that delays are the fault of the Town are incorrect.
The Town is working hard to secure a fair agreement for all parties, one that will support generations of East Fremantle locals and visitors.
A key underlying principle of the East Fremantle Community Park is that it is a community facility for all – an integrated and financially sustainable community precinct where sports, leisure and recreation thrive together, for the use of all residents and visitors to East Fremantle.
This principle shaped the design, operation and funding model and has been understood and agreed to by all parties, including the State Government and the East Fremantle Football Club.
The Town fully supports the display of logos, honour boards, membership boards and memorabilia on game days or during Club events, recognising the role of these elements in creating a better gameday atmosphere.
The Town’s position on the fence has been consistent from the start of the project: the oval is intended as an open space with free access for the entire community. The ongoing use of the oval and surrounding precinct by members of the community has already uplifted the area and we’re looking forward to seeing more people take advantage of this fantastic community asset.
The Town’s commitment to the project has been in support of fostering community spirit, improving health and wellbeing, and providing a space where people can gather, connect, and enjoy a better quality of life.
The Town recognises the contributions of East Fremantle ratepayers and West Australian taxpayers for funding this project, and making it something that generations of people can enjoy.
