Local rock band, Curfew, is set to light up the Youth Stage at this year’s East Fremantle’s George Street Festival on Sunday 1 December.
Featuring three talented students from John Curtin College of the Arts, the band will offer festival goers a blast from the past with their 90s inspired mix of grunge, heavy rock and punk, nostalgic of iconic bands like Silverchair, Nirvana and Green Day. They will also showcase some of their own songs.
The band which formed a year ago, features drummer Reef Robinson (15) who has played at the festival over the past three years. Last year he and vocalist, Lucas Lenane (15), performed at the festival as ‘Short Sighted.’
Joining them this year is bassist Will Lerner (14), and together they have formed the Curfew band.
Mr Lerner said the festival was a great place to perform and way to express themselves.
“Gigging has been a dream of mine and playing at the George Street Festival seemed like the perfect opportunity,” he said.
The band said they looked forward to experiencing the festival’s energy and performing for a passionate crowd.
“It’s an opportunity to showcase our music at the George Street Festival which means a lot to us,” they said.
“It’s a chance to reach a wider audience, build our fan base and gain more experience performing live.
“For us, it’s a step forward in the music industry and we’re excited to share our passion for grunge and heavy rock with a new crowd.”
East Fremantle’s George Street Festival is the Town of East Fremantle’s much loved major community event and has run for over 30 years.
The festival offers something for the whole family, including live music stages, free, family-friendly activities, plus food, beverage and over 100 artisan stalls.
Mr Robinson added that he loves playing at the festival because of the energy and the atmosphere.
“It’s a space where the audience is fully immersed in the music, creating a strong connection between the performers and the crowd,” he said.
“Each year, I have enjoyed seeing familiar faces and new ones. The festival’s diversity of music has also inspired me and playing alongside other talented artists has been a major highlight.”
This year’s festival will feature three live stages, with eight youth acts on the Youth Stage including three bands. Local business Duke of George is also offering free live music and DJ Vinyl all day from 12pm.
Mr Lenane said he was excited to play at the festival again so he can connect with like-minded people who resonate with his image and the message he is trying to convey through his music.
“I love the George Street Festival because it’s super grounded and community based and it really feels like it’s bringing people together,” he said.
Fans can expect a high-energy performance from the band at 3pm.
