Town of East Fremantle has secured a $133,000 Riverbank grant from the State Government for river wall upgrades and plaza works at Norm McKenzie Reserve.
The project will see the replacement of the existing retaining wall with terraces made from reconstituted limestone blocks that will enable visitors to enjoy the water, views and café, as well as additional seating.
The project will also see enhancements to the plaza, which has been designed to provide a shared space that will enhance the activities the area is currently used for.
The area will be surfaced to allow for pedestrian use, with interpretive signage featuring information about the river and surrounds to be installed.
There will also be restoration works between Norm McKenzie Park and the beach to rehabilitate the areas where erosion is impacting the existing shoreline embankment. In addition, a cover of local native plant species suited to the river environment will be added.
Works are expected to begin in January 2025 and be completed by March 2025.
