A local rowing club is rowing its way to success after receiving a $2,438 grant to purchase new high-performance oars.
The Fremantle Rowing Club Inc was awarded the funding through a 2024-2025 Community Assistance Grant from the Town of East Fremantle, enabling the club to purchase two out of eight new sweep oars.
The new oars have given the club the tools it needs to meet the demands of its growing membership and strengthen its competitive edge on the water.
Fremantle Rowing Club Secretary, Michaela Maine, said the ability to provide quality equipment was key to supporting the club’s rowers as they develop. It also helped keep them engaged in the sport and the club.
“The new oars have meant that our athletes have access to high performance equipment that meets their needs as they move to high level competitions,” she said.
“The club is grateful for the funding from the Town. The partnership and support from the Town have helped meet the needs of our growing community.”
Town of East Fremantle Mayor Jim O’Neill said $15,816 was invested across 12 community and sporting groups in the 2024-2025 Community Assistance Grants round.
“The Town is pleased to be able to support our local community groups and sporting clubs through the provision of these annual grants, and I am thrilled to announce that we will open the 2025-2026 Community Assistance Grants round next week,” he said.
“Community groups and clubs are an important touch point of our society, helping us to connect to our neighbours, enjoy hobbies and enrich our community.”
Community Assistance Grants provide benefits to residents in the Town and can be invested in tangible and physical items such as infrastructure and equipment, uniforms, children’s play equipment, shade sails or structures.
Applications for 2025-2026 Community Assistance Grants will be open between Monday 24 March and Friday 2 May.
