The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has announced a new Quarantine Area (QA) for the entire Perth metropolitan area in the fight against polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB).

Following a number of detections of PSHB just outside of the current border, a new quarantine area, restricting the movement of wood and plant material has been declared.

The new QA is divided into two zones to support eradication activities and to help stop the spread – Zone A and Zone B.

The Town of East Fremantle is now located in Zone A and the below requirements are now in place.

  • Wood or plant materials, including living plants, can be moved within the Zone A only. They cannot be moved to an area outside of the Zone A or outside of the QA.

  • Wood and green waste can only be moved outside of the Zone A if it is chipped to pieces that are 2.5cm or less in diameter.

  • Green waste can be moved from within the Zone A to a place outside of the QA or in Zone B if it is transported to a waste management premises contained on the list of PSHB waste management facilities.
  • Any machinery used to handle green waste must be cleaned before it can be moved outside of the Zone A.

An interactive map showing the different zones and the requirements, and the full Quarantine Area Notice (with exemptions) can be found on the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development website
