Statement regarding East Fremantle Football Club arrangements for East Fremantle Community Park

The Town of East Fremantle is focused on seeing the East Fremantle Football Club return to their home ground by the end of this year, so they can commence playing at East Fremantle Oval and the Club’s teams are positioned to deliver strong performances during the 2025 WAFL season.

The Town has appreciated the patience of all key stakeholders in the redevelopment and long-term agreements for use of East Fremantle Oval, including the Sharks, Fremantle City FC, East Fremantle Bowls Club and East Fremantle Croquet Club. We recognise that there has been an impact on each group from the redevelopment of East Fremantle Oval Precinct.

Returning the Sharks to East Fremantle Oval will ensure that Fremantle City FC is again able to access the Tricolore Community Centre (at Wauhop Park), particularly the women’s and girls’ soccer teams, whose members and supporters have generously and patiently been waiting to move back into their facility.

Now that the 2024 football season has finished, Council has taken the practical step of seeking to finalise the proposed sub-lease and licence agreement at the same time given that together they form the basis of the Shark’s long-term occupation of East Fremantle Oval.

Council remains optimistic that the East Fremantle Football Club will be able to work with the Town to address any issues that they believe still remain within the agreements and notes the Club’s positive public comment that it is close to finalising the sub-lease agreement.

The Town’s ultimate goal is for all of its great sporting teams to be located where they should be playing in 2025.

This means ensuring the community can be barracking loudly for the Sharks at East Fremantle Oval and watching our talented women’s soccer players playing at Wauhop Park.
